Youth Cong. leader dies in road accident
JORHAT/ITANAGAR, Feb 27: All India Youth Congress Secretary and Arunachal Pradesh incharge Mridul Gogoi was killed and four others critically injured in a road accident in upper Assam’s Jorhat district in the wee hours today. He is survived by his wife and two children.
Police said the vehicle in which Gogoi and his associates were travelling hit a truck on National Highway 37 at Ladhoighar, near Jorhat town, at around 2.20 hrs.
He was on his way from Dibrugarh to Guwahati.
Other passengers in the vehicle included Gogoi's PSO, the driver and two other Congress workers. The injured were rushed to the Jorhat Civil Hospital and would be shifted to Assam Medical College and Hospital at Dibrugarh. UNI
Meanwhile, Lok Sabha MP Takam Sanjoy has expressed deep shock at the tragic death of Mridul Gogoi.
His premature demise has caused irreparable loss especially for the youths of North East region. Congress Party also has lost one of the dedicated and selfless activists from the NE region in particular and the Nation as a whole, Sanjoy said.
The MP conveyed deep sense of condolence to the bereaved family of the late Gogoi and prayed for eternal peace of the departed soul.

Press fraternity takes serious exception to assault on journalists
ITANAGAR, Feb. 27: The Arunachal Pradesh Union of Working Journalists (APUWJ) and Itanagar Press Club (IPC), in a joint meeting today, unanimously condemned the assault on a media person on duty during the Statehood day celebrations at Indira Gandhi Park.
Taking strong exception to the stoic silence of the State Government, particularly
the authorities concerned, the Press fraternity expressed its strong resentment against
the repeated assault and attack on press persons, which despite several written complaints
boils down to no action. The concern is aggravated in view of the absence of repentance
and an apology from the authority involved. Therefore, the scribes are unanimous
that any such assault or attack on Press and Press persons in future, departments
(government or private), organizations, Unions and NGOs to which the assaulters or
attackers belongs to would be completely boycotted without warning. The extreme step
has been necessitated due to complete lack of concerns for the Press fraternity by

DIRANG, Feb 27: The Monpa New Year or ‘Lossar’ festival was celebrated here today at the outdoor auditorium amidst traditional fervour and gaiety.
The chief patron and organizer of the event local MLA Phurpa Tsering called for imbibing spirit of brotherhoodness and unity amongst all tribes residing here. West Kameng district officials including additional deputy commissioners Rinchin Tashi, Nyabin Ette, other officials and public turned out in large number to celebrate the New Year.
